You see we are no longer the "Hancock Household" and since everything else in our lives has changed over the past few months why not the blog too.

Lava Hot Springs

This was Colby and the kids first time to Lava... We planned on driving up there and grabbing dinner in town and then running to set up camp before it got too dark. Colby pulled into town drove the 3-4 blocks that it is and was like "What? There is nothing here."

Exactly!

So we ended up doing dinner at one of the three places available - Fat Jacks.

(I have no idea what Jaxon is doing in this picture.)

Right next to our campground was a little play area for the kids - which was PERFECT! I really liked the place we stayed, it's called Smith's Trout Haven.

My friend Melissa and her family live in Idaho Falls and met us here to camp and play for the weekend. They have two girls that my kids just adore.

See? This is Kyah with her buddy Reese. They are only 2 months apart and are super cute together.

The kids were caught all playing under the table together - I love surprises like this.

Jaxon is such a good big brother. He adopted Gillian the whole time we were there, he followed her around and made sure she was okay.

My cute friend Melissa, as chance would have it her husband and Colby served in the same mission for about a year together. They were never companions, but had a great time reminiscing over the camp fire.

We spent a chunk of Saturday at the pool, because really what else is there to do in Lava?

All in all it was a great little trip. Good food, good friends and occupied kids.

July 4th - Part II

It was Harley' turn this year to have the kids for fireworks, so Colby and I packed up and headed to Brigham City for fireworks with his family.

Everyone eats dinner and then head to the park for games and lounging about.

I was entertained by this little girl for most of the evening. Isn't she the cutest?

Brigham City puts on one heck of a show... this is my second year up here and the fireworks are awesome. You might get rained on by quite a bit of ash, but the show is great.

The pool even opens up after the fireworks for a late night swim...

Colby and I wished we had brought our suits.

July 4th - Part I

I love the 4th of July! I think we are so amazingly blessed to live in this country (problems and all).

I love to take my kids to the parade and this is the ONLY one we go to - it's perfect!

West Point does it right, it's only half and hour, kids get enough candy and we're home just after 9.

Does anyone else out there cry when the flag goes by?

This picture makes me want to have a mini freak out... I can't believe how big she's getting.

This is what both my kids do at the beginning of every parade...

They just have a hard time with those loud sirens.

Garden Update - Week 4

Poppy Fields and Camping

We did our first camping trip of the summer.

It was a quick over night trip and some might not even really consider it camping,

but it works for us.

We just went up to Mantua and to our surprise they have a huge field of wild poppies that were in FULL bloom. It was absolutely beautiful! I love poppies and it was A.MAZ.ING!

Kyah woke up earlier than anyone else, so to allow others a few more minutes of precious sleep I took Ms. Kyah for a walk - hence the super cute hair. (She had been awake for about 15 minutes.)

I wish we had brought our nicer camera - because these photos don't do justice.

I let her pick one - we weren't supposed to pick any, but for a girl who can't see a flower and not pick it, one was still not enough.

Roy Pool

We LOVE the pool, we are a family of sun worshippers and pool loungers.

So, when it's 100 degrees in Utah on a Saturday - what do you do?

Go to the pool!

(Really everyone did - by about noon the pool was at maximum capacity.)

If you put goggles on Jaxon he has no fears... this is him swimming in 7 foot water.

Kyah loves any chance she gets to play with Colby.

I love it.

They laugh so hard together, I wonder have they ever lived with out each other.

It was a lovely day.

Everyone came home slightly redder and a lot tanner.

So, I have a question for you... it's part of an on going dilemma at our house. At first it I thought I was just having a moment, but then it seems that Colby is feeling this way too...so here it is...

What do you cook in the summertime?

When all the world is hot...

Do you eat cold things outside or eat only things fried?

Or throw it all in a crock pot?

I'm sorry!!! Truly, but as I started typing a song came to mind and well, now that that's out of my system...I'm serious - do you cook differently in the summer?

My motivation to turn on my oven (for dinner) or stand over a hot stove is pretty much nill, so trying to think of something to cook for dinner that sounds appetizing is getting pretty difficult.

Do you want to know a secret? You do? Okay - I have a hard time cooking. Now I realize that that seems funny, but there is a difference between cooking and baking. I LOVE to bake, and I like to cook.
At any given moment I have at least 5-10 dessert recipes floating in my brain.
When it comes to making a meal plan for the week - I fail. I'm lucky if I can come up with 2 or 3.

I want to make this...

Not, this...

So, do a girl a favor and give me some ideas on what you love to cook for your crew when you'd rather be laying in a pool. Or maybe you cook the same way year round and I just need to get over it.

Sluffing Work

Jaxon had a doctor's appointment at Primary's this morning and since I didn't feel like driving 2 hours back and forth to work today, Jax stayed with me at work for a half day and then home we went.

Colby and I had a sluff day with the kids and this is how it went...

BOONDOCKS - our first stop.

This kids ran around like crazies playhing games and getting tickets.

Then out to the bumper boats where they all got SOAKED!

Notice the kids ducking their heads and hiding from the water?

Next stop - DUCK POND.

This kids love to go to the Layton park and feed the ducks.

Aren't we a roudy looking bunch?

After the park we went to the kids favorite spot for dinner - BRICK OVEN, where they ate more than I did. And finally home for popcorn and a movie.

Everyone is exhausted! But, it was a great day. I love getting to spend time with my little family.

The carrots... they are not doing so hot... I'm considering digging them up and planting something else... I guess we'll give them another week.

Update on the strawberry patch... I HATE birds! (Not really, but for the sake of my strawberries) The strawberries are growing, but as soon as one turns pink and gets even slightly close to red the birds come and eat them off the plants before I can pick them. So, I think we are going to try putting up some nets.

Summer Party

Colby works for the Jazz so his summer work party is attended by some very fun guests. Kyah had her picture taken with Buzz the Bee.

We were served our dinner by Gail Miller and Randy Rigby.

They had face painting and balloons for the kids. There were activities and then of course the baseball game.

We were given bags of goodies as we came in the gates so the kids would have enough to snack on.

This was both Jaxon and Kyah's first time to a baseball game. They both did great. The weather was perfect and we all had a nice time together as a family.

Garden Update #1

One week photos...

This is the corn... can you believe it?? I can't believe it sprouted in one week.

And the beets too.

And the brocolli - actually the brocolli was the first to come up and then the beets and corn.

Here's the cucumbers - we did have one die, but the rest have held on so far.

A RED strawberry!! The kids are already clamoring to eat them. I am probably the most excited about my little strawberry patch. What a fun and happy little spot of earth.

We have some kind of bug that's trying hard to eat our little plants so unfortunately we had to bug spray them this week, but it looks like the watermelon and carrot seeds are starting to poke through.

He got his first set of legos for Christmas and really liked them, so we got him more - he put the set in his hand together all by himself one night after dinner - he was SO PROUD of himself!

Debbie's Shower

One of my old college buddies is getting married at the end of the month so, we thought we'd have a bit of a party to celebrate in her excitement.

Debbie is practically part of the family so it was only fitting to bring them.

We had lunch at this great little spot called La-Cai Noodle House. Seriously good food! I will be going back. I'm considering a lunch date with Colby there right now... Yum!

This was kind of a modern twist on the age old idea. We went to a restaurant... had lunch, gabbed, opened presents and laughed hard. No games, no awkwardness - just friends, food and fun.

I went to school with both Maghann and Debbie (above) aren't they the cutest.

I just loved school with them.

Maghann brought some super cute centerpieces (Thank you!), you can see them here.

Debbie is such a sweetheart. I'm so glad we all got to chat and catch up over lunch.

It was my first time trying to decorate sugar cookies with royal icing and I think it went pretty well all things considered.

Garden of Eatin'

Meet our 1st attempt at a garden. I am tickled - Colby is slightly worried. He doesn't think anything will grow in our clay heavy soil, but I'm optimistic!

We planted red, yellow and green bell peppers. Can you see the baby peppers already??

We planted cherry and early girl tomatoes - just for me and the kids - Colby abhors tomatoes.

This is my strawberry patch - that's right - a PATCH. I've always wanted a strawberry patch. We only tilled up a section of the dirt and we went a seed/plant happy at the nursery so these little beauties just wouldn't fit in the garden area... but I have a lovely little flower bed at the back of the house and these are lovely there.

Here are rows of corn, broccoli, carrots and beets.

We also planted lettuce, watermelon, cantaloupe, pumpkins, several cucumbers and beans.

Please grow little plants - PLEASE!

Graduate

I (sniff) can't (sniff) believe (sniff) how old he is!

Here he is on the first day of school...

And here he is on his last day of school.

Jaxon has officially graduated kindergarten.

I am amazed at how much he has grown and learned this year.

He knows his days of the week, months of the year, coins, addition, subtraction, address, etc.

And he can read - not just sound out words like "Cat" or "Dog" but can legitimately read. It is amazing.

He sat and read to me a book that was a 1st-2nd grade level book - he was SO proud of himself and I am too. He has done so well.

This is his teacher Mrs. Garcia. He loved her and she was fantastic with him.

Good job buddy - we are so proud of you.

You are growing up to be such an amazing and smart boy.

We love you so much!

Pearl Harbor

This was one of my most favorite things. We were there right when it opening so it wasn't super crowded yet and I loved it. We were able to walk around and read everything and just take it in.

There was a reverence there that I didn't expect. I had heard some horror stories about loud and overzealous tourists, so I was worried, but it was perfect.

The deep respect and gratitute I felt for these fallen soldiers was at times overwhelming.

My Grandpa was a gunner on airplanes in WWII and I've heard many stories. He still has the maps that they issued him with escape routes and ally countries. He's shown us many pictures.

If there is one stop I would recommend it would be Pearl Harbor - but get there early.

It is amazing to go out to the USS Arizona. It makes it very real. Before they take you out to the site you watch a video about the events leading up to the Pearl Harbor attack. I cried... I have a tendency to get a little teary about my patriotism and this was no exception.

There is still oil coming out of the Arizona... you could see little bubbles of it coming to the surface. It was so sad to see how close it was to the surface and yet there was nothing more than they did do to save those soldiers.

This is the USS Missouri - the exact type of ship that the Arizona was - just to give you an idea of size.

The wall of rememberance for all those that lost their lives on the USS Arizona.

They had WWII survivors there signing books and memoribilia.

Laie

We went to the temple! Loved this temple. It was beautiful.

I love that there are fountains of water everywhere and the flowers??? Out of control beautiful!

Almost all of the flowers from this post can be found on the temple grounds.

These pictures are on the drive to Laie.

After the temple we went to the PCC. We bought tickets for the Luau and for the night show - we had no idea there was so much to see there. Next time we want to spend an entire day just checking out this place.

They had an area for each island or culture. They described in detail about the cutlure. It looked really cool.

YUM!!! The best pineapple I've ever had in my life! EVER!

The had pineapple everything. We had pineapple ice cream cones while we walked around the pineapple variety garden and then took a bowl of pineapple to go to eat on sitting at the beach on North Shore.

There were at least 30 different types of pineapples planted in the variety garden. Different colors, sizes, grown in different regions... I had no idea.

On our way to North Shore we passed by the pineapple fields... miles and miles of pineapples at different stages of growth. Did you know it takes 18-36 months for a pineapple to grow?

That's crazy!

This is the chapel we went to for church on Sunday. Sacrament meeting had a lot of people and a good chunk of them were tourists.

Maui

Maui was our first stop and I'm so glad it was - it was exactly what I needed.

2 out of 3 mornings in Maui we ate at Da Kitchen in Kihea. Yum!

I've never eaten rice with my omelet before, but if I could find some Porteguese sausage I'd do it at home.

We went to the Four Seasons Resort to have a fancy dinner and while we waited for our reservation we walked on the beach and watched the sunset.

Is there really anything better than a sunset on the beach in Hawaii??

We have some great friends that do "jump" pictures wherever they go - so the below picture is just for you Paul and Rachael.

Maui was awesome! It was so much more relaxed and more of a "Hawaii" vibe than Waikiki. We checked out some farmers markets and walked around and recovered from wedding stress.

We snorkeled Molokini (below) - my first time ever. After I got over my initial panic attack - it was awesome. On the boat ride out we saw a whale. While snokeling we saw schools of different fish and 5 or 6 sea turtles. It was great - I'm glad I let Colby talk me into it.

This was our beautiful view from the pool of our hotel in Waikiki. If I can figure it out I recorded a video and you can hear the waves crashing against the shore as we watched the sun go down. Probably one of the most perfect nights of my life. These pictures don't come close to doing it justice. To feel the spray of the ocean and to smell the salt and the flowers, to hear the waves, to be holding hands with my new husband and see one of the most beautiful gifts our Heavenly Father has given us....

Drowning....

I am alive.

I am MARRIED!

I am home from my Honeymoon (Yes, I already miss Hawaii).

I am another year older.

My house looks like bombs went off in it.

I just got the laundry done and the pile is growing already.

I am struggling just to find my work clothes and the kids school clothes each morning.

I bought groceries with my kids in tow eating ice cream at 9:30 last night.

I have hundreds of pictures to post - reception, wedding, Hawaii.

And about 500 other things -

BUT, we're HAPPY! Extremely happy, the joy I felt as I made dinner Tuesday night and looked over to see Kyah sitting on Colby's lap while Colby helped Jaxon with his homework brought me to tears and to my knees in gratitude that night. My Heavenly Father sure is showering me with blessings (and a little extra strength) and we are happy.

I have officially been divorced for one year.

That's all I have these days. Sorry for the lack of posts, but between work, the kids and the wedding - pretty much ALL of my time (plus some) is being used up.

But, we are good, we are happy and we are almost there!!!

So, let's start with some updates shall we?

Jaxon: Is going through a "boy" phase. I'm not sure how to describe it, he has huge swings of polar oppositeitis. One minute he is sweet as sweet - kind, lovey, thoughtful and the next he's getting notes from his teacher that say "He refuses to do anything he doesn't deem as fun." Seriously?!?!?! He's in kindergarten! Granted there has been a lot of change in our lives over the past year or so and I can't help but feel like he got the brunt of it. I try to console myself by saying "I'm doing everything I can." and "It will get better soon." I just pray that I haven't forever screwed him up. He is such a good kid and just craves to be loved. I know he doesn't understand, but I'm so much closer to being home with him than ever before - just a little while longer buddy - I promise!

Kyah: She is so excited for this wedding! She is convinced that Colby is marrying both of us. She is excited to wear her white dress and hold her flowers and go to the temple. I have surrendered her to Colby - she is more his these days than mine. It makes my heart so happy to see them together. It's always a fight to see who gets to hold Colby's hand (will Dad's always be cooler than Mom's?) Kyah has actually settled lately - which is LOVELY. Only when extremely tired or not feeling well do we see the temper flares of the past - I am so grateful. She is very fun to be around and is such a chatty Kathy.

Colby: Is having to deal with me - in the midst of the craziness (poor guy!) It's amazing he still wants to marry me and to his credit has been much less likely to have a freak out than me. Initially we made bets on when he would have his "I'm getting married freak out" but thus far he has been excited and patient and pretty much fantastic. He is very busy helping me take care of details while we try combining our lives. A LOT OF CHANGE!!

Amber: I am just super excited! Honestly. People think I'm crazy and that this is too soon after getting divorced - but, if someone walked up to you and offered you everything you had hoped and dreamed of your whole life - wouldn't you take it? I am! I'm jumping at the chance. Now while it may sound like I am an 18 year old with rose colored glasses - please keep in mind that I was married for almost 5 years and a single mother for 2. I do understand what marriage entails. But, because of the things I've learned so far - I know how different this is.

To be honest we were both dreading our engagment pictures - neither one of us is a huge fan of pictures - let a lone ones where we are the focus. But Terra was FANTASTIC - seriously we had so much fun.

Perfect Behavior

Jaxon has a sliding behavior chart at school. It ranges from Stop and Think (pretty bad) to Perfect Behavior. Well Jax and I had a deal that if he had perfect behavior at school (not an easy task - at least not for us) we'd go to Chucky Cheese....so, here we are at Chucky Cheese.

Way to go buddy!! We are so proud of you!!

Seattle

Colby and I had a quick weekend away...It was lovely, no wedding stuff, no work, no people everywhere...just a nice weekend with us and his best friend and his wife. It was FREEZING! But, other than that great. We went up so I could get his friend's "approval" before the wedding. Ha ha ha! Luckily I passed because I'm not giving the ring back. :)

We went to Pikes Market. Pretty much a swap meet with come really cool food stands thrown in...the had fish stands and fresh fruit and vegetable stands - I was drooling...there were fresh flowers and even a handmade pasta stand.

They seriously throw fish back and forth to each other... it's totally for the tourists, not sure getting salmon guts on me sounds like a fun tourist thing, but whatever.

At Pike's there is a Cheese shop called "Beechers" Worlds best mac-n-cheese...honestly! Life changing almost.

We ate some seriously good food on this trip so if you're headed to Seattle and need a couple food suggestions let me know.

We also did the "Underground Tour" which is essentially a condensed history lesson of Seattle, but cool. So, the long and the short of it, is Seattle had a rough go of it in the beginning and after a fire that destroyed the entire dowtown, they rebuilt - but on top of the city that already existed (they were below sea level and were getting washed out). So, they added floors onto all of the buildings and then built the road to match and finally the side walk. So, for quite a while you would drive to where you were going and then climb down a ladder to get to the sidewalk and the entrance to the store/building. When they finally built the sidewalks all the legit business went to street level and the shady ones stayed in the basement.

I thought it was super cool.

There are tunnels and buildings under a chunk of downtown Seattle.

A entertaining way to learn some history.

Colby and his friends were so great to me... they even took me to a couple cupcake places I wanted to check out (I know - I'm a total nerd). Trophy cupcakes (review: cake was good - not great, frosting was awesome) and Cakespy which is owned by a gal who does cupcake watercolors - a fun and funky shop.

We also got to dinner with my aunt that live up there. It really was a fantastic trip - thanks Paul and Racheal for letting us stay and being such great hosts.

Not Enough = Too Much

I just want you to know that at this time in exactly 2 months from now, I will be parking my car at the Salt Lake Temple, applying my 15th layer of water proof mascara, saying a quick prayer that my nerves will settle and I won't throw up and reminding my children for the 437th time to please, PLEASE be good in the temple.

Then I'll get to do something I've been dreaming about my whole life and all of the chaos and stress I'm currently dealing with will melt away.

The Hogle Zoo decorates for Christmas - who knew?
Colby and I thought it would be fun to take the kids and check it out. Mike, Emily and Gavin came and froze with us. Besides being cold, the only other downside was that it was dark and you couldn't really see the animals. I think next time we'd go an hour earlier to check out the animals but, other than that everyone thought it was great.

They even had Santa and two of his reindeer.

All of the tigers were awake and prowling... it was a little creepy, but definately my favorite part.

Combined Family Christmas Party

Colby and I thought it would be fun to try and throw a Christmas Party with both of our families....it was fun, but it was also A LOT of work. Colby didn't have a single Christmas decoration in his house... you can't have a party without decorations, so we decorated, organized, cooked and voila - a Christmas Party was born! We ate, played games, had a white elephant exchange and the kids decorated sugar cookies - pretty eventful for our first go at it. Thanks everyone for coming and supporting us - even if it did seem a little odd.

The Hog Hoedown

Last week at school they asked the kids to dress as "farmers" because they had been learning about Pigs and were having a "Hog Hoedown" at school.

I saw the note about this event the morning of...and No, Jaxon has nothing even remotely farmerish - not a plaid shirt, no overalls... nada. But, in Jaxon's mind farmers are pretty similar to cowboys, so this is what he wore...

For the record the squinty eyes were on purpose... this is his "I'm a tough cowboy" look.

My Favorite Week of the Year

Seriously!!! This is it. Here's why:

1 - I have an excuse to bake/cook all week. I love looking for and finding new recipes as well as making old favorites. I love the smells and warmth that comes from the kitchen. It's a foodies dream!

2 - Thanksgiving, which is at a tie for first place as my favorite holiday. A day devoted to giving thanks, spending time with family AND eating?!?!?! Sign me up.

3- I get to set up my Christmas tree. This always happens the Saturday after Thanksgiving and I LOVE decorating for Christmas. Bring on the Amy Grant.

So, when you add up all that and throw in a serious shopping day and a 4 day weekend - how could it not be my FAVORITE week of the year?

Jaxon and I had our first Parent Teacher Conference this week. He is doing great and his teacher thinks it's time for him to start reading. I don't remember reading in Kindergarten. But, apparently that's how they do things now. I am amazed at the things he is learning. He is constantly singing various songs he's learned at school. Some of his current favorites are "God Bless America" and "Days of the Week" (which is the same tune as the Adam's Family theme.) This kid cracks me up!

He brought home his first report card last Friday. He was SO EXCITED to give it to me. As soon as I opened it up and started looking at it he asked me if we could write a thank-you card for his teacher. I asked him why he wanted to do that and he said "Because Mrs. Garcia takes such good care of us in class." He also asked if I would make some mini cheesecakes (his favorite treat ever, recipe here) to give to her. He is so thoughtful. True to form he asked me to help him with his card as soon as we got home.

Jaxon, please don't ever change. Please continue to love to learn and be excited to go to school. Please stay as thoughtful and caring ten years from now as you are today. I know it's a long shot, but can I pray he skips his teenage years?? Everyday I worry if today will be the day that I go to kiss him goodbye for school and he says he's too big. Thankfully, today was not that day.

Saturday we attempted family pictures.

The last time we had a family picture Kyah was 1. So, needless to say somethings have changed and they needed updating.

I wont have the actual pictures until next week, but in the mean time, here are some outtakes (courtesy of Ashley) for your viewing pleasure.

The weather was perfect. High 60's on November 6th in Utah is more than you can ask for.

The pictures were taken on the Lagoon Park Trail in Farmington. This was the first time I had ever been there, but it was beautiful and exactly what I was looking for.

LOTS and LOTS of leaves were thrown in the taking of these pictures.

I turned off my cable in January of last year and when everything went digital I did not get a transmitter. So, this means that we have not had tv in my house for almost two years. Now while I realize that seems archaic to most, I have really not missed it. I occasionally wish I could sit down and watch Food Network or maybe a football game, but in general I'm glad it's gone. We still watch movies, just not tv.

Last night I went to a friends house to watch Glee (see I'm still aware of what's going on) with some friends. Can I just say that between the Brittney Spears episode (should have known better) and the 2 minute segment of another Law and Order type show we caught before turning off the tv, I don't think I will ever allow the tv back in my home again. I do realize how I sound right now... hence the disclaimer at the top of the post. I am not perfect, nor do I claim to be, but I can not believe what is put on tv for public consumption. I know I have the option of not watching it and I won't, but I just wondered if anyone else feels the same way or if I really am as "Leave it to Beaver" as I sound.

FHE General Conference Edition

In that past we have either played General Conference Bingo or a Candy game in which I have a bowl of candies and we pick a word each session, (Prayer, Repentance, Faith, Jesus, etc.) and every time the kids hear the word they can come and get a treat. Yes, I know this sounds like a recipe for a sugar high and generally it it, but I'd rather have them high on sugar and listening then not. I am generally a stickler for at least one session each day and they must sit and listen to the Prophet each time he speaks.

What do you do with your kids during conference? Do they listen? Participate? Any great advice?

This week I tried a new restaurant, Taste of India. Super yum... I tried the Chicken Coconut Korma and the Mango Chicken, with some Cheese Naan on the side. I liked that you can specify the heat of the dish, anything can be mild, medium or hot. I tried a mild and medium....definately couldn't do the hot without a few gallons of water.

And then today I went to the Greek Festival for lunch... So much good food! I tried Dolmathes, Pastitsio, Souvlaki, Spanakopita and of course a Gyro. (Please keep in mind I was sharing this food with another person and that I did not single handedly eat all this.) And for dessert we had Kourambiedes, Galotopita and Bakalava. Colby accidentally ate the whole clove that they use as a garnish in the Baklava...

"Wow! This tastes like Christmas."

They had art, jewelry and clothing to purchase as well as dancing during the evening. If you are downtown this weekend check it out.

I think we get comfortable in our eating habits and forget or are afraid to try new things....

It was a typical Monday afternoon....

I had just dropped my baby off at his first day of Kindergarten... I had made it all the way

home without crying... I had not fallen apart in front him or in the school...

I was brave!

To my complete surprise these are what I received as a reward....

How sweet is it that someone had recognized that it was a hard day and gone out of their way to do something nice to make me smile....

Did you know I absolutely LOVE flowers... don't tell, but it's one of my secret girl indulgences.

Box Elder Campground & Brigham City Pool

This is our first attempt at tent camping. The kids have camped with their grandparents, but usually in a camp trailer. Out of lack or equipment and possibly fear I have never taken the kids camping. This summer I bought a tent and we packed up and tried it out. The kids did great. Kyah was a little hard to get to sleep and Jaxon woke up pretty early, but really other than that they did fantastic for their first time.

Smith Family Reunion 2010

My Grandparents celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary this summer. So in honor of their 50 years we had one heck of a party. Which included pictures at the Logan temple.

A luncheon at the Blue Bird, in the same room they had their wedding luncheon, 50 years before.

My Grandma asked that I make them a wedding cake for their anniversary.

They didn't have one on their wedding day because at the time it cost $25 and that was too much money.

They cut the cake and fed it to each other surrounded by family and friends.

We swam in the pool at the hotel...

We had a war with marshmellow guns...

We laughed, and ate and hung out with family and had an overall great time.

Amy's Wedding

My closest and bestest cousin got married on June 5th (I realize how long ago that was thank you!) in the Oquir Mt. Temple.

I was born at the end of April and Amy at the beginning of June. We were blessed on the same day and have been life long buddies.

I was so glad to be there with her on her special day - love you lots Amy!

This Kid is 5 years old today!

I can't believe it - I can't believe that he is that old, that he is so big - that he has only been changing my life for that long.

Jaxon, I love you! You are the best big brother a little sister could ask for. I am constantly amazed at how patient and selfless you are with Kyah. You gladly hand over whatever it is that YOU have that she WANTS - even when it's rightfully yours - really you can keep things on occasion.

You are kind and thoughtful - you are constantly worried about things being fair.

You are generous with your love, acceptance and encouragement.

You have been poked and prodded since you were born, dealt with more doctors and more yucky things in your young life than the rest of the family combined. You always take it with a grain of salt and a great attitude.

I love your silly side, your snugly side, your brainy side and especially the side that is sweet on your momma. I love to hear you say your prayers and your description of how much you love me.

Bug a Boo - you are the best son a Mom could ask for and

Memorial Day Weekend in a Nutshell.

Remember my friend Melissa? She came and spent the weekend with us,

except this time she also brought her husband, Roger and 3 year old daughter, Reese.

On Saturday we went to...

the Aquarium.

The kids had a great time checking everything out.

This is attempt - 52 at trying to get the kids to look at me for a picture. I gave up!

Whatever! The sharks will look at me and hold still for a photo.

Then on Sunday we went to...

visit the "Great's".

My Great Uncle James happens to be buried right next to my Great Grandparents,

so we ran into family and had a nice mini reunion. This is family on my Mom's, Dad's side and unfortunately we don't see them as often as we should so it was great.

I also took the kids around the cemetery to see some of the graves of passed on soldiers.

May they rest in peace - Everyday I am grateful for the sacrafices that so many people have made for me.

On Monday we took the kids to the Hill Airforce Base Museum

I think Kyah is SUPER cute in her little flight suit - I tried to hard to get Jaxon to put one on for a picture, but it just wasn't happening.

Bubble Blowers

My friend Melissa watches the kids two days a week. Yesterday she took them outside for some bubble blowing and bless her heart she took these GREAT pictures for me.

I miss seeing their cute faces and all the fun things they do while I'm stuck at work.

I am a SLACKER!

I did so good for awhile, but me and time - we don't seem to be on the same team these days.

Maybe it's the ~~warm weather~~ large amounts of moisture that are making my lawn grow like the weed it is.

Maybe it's the move and everything just barely getting back to normal at work.

Maybe it's the increase in "me" time.

Maybe it's extra curricular activities.

Regardless of what it "is" - I currently suck at blogging and baking.

If anyone happens upon one of those "time turner back things" that Hermione uses on Harry Potter, I'll buy it from you!

Mother's Day

Because we had time to kill and my kids were actually dressed and clean at the same time -

A sleepover

My dear sweet friend Melissa came to visit this past weekend.

We grew up together and she moved away to Idaho years ago. But, this weekend just for fun and for a friends babyshower, she came.

Jaxon was so excited that I was having a sleepover. He loves them, so of course he thought it was fantastic - that and the fact that Melissa brought her gorgeous 4 month old daughter.

Who knew Jaxon was such a fan of babies?

Her stay was fun - we baked - A LOT.

We took 3 kids to Ikea on a Saturday - Hello!

We laughed and carried on and had a great time.

Side story about Jaxon - at Ikea, he would not leave Melissa and the baby.

The entire time he had his head stuck in the stroller, talking and playing with the baby.

Multiple (at least 50) times I told him to back up and give them some room, etc.

After one of these tellings, he turns to me and says,

"Don't you know Mom, I have a WAY with babies."

Are you kidding me? I love this kid!

Melissa, please come back and visit soon and make sure and bring Gillian too.

So, I've been away - not anywhere fun or tropical, just busy.

That day that rolls around every year that takes you closer to the grave came and went.

It was better than expected. So many people did nice things for me and I was shocked and grateful.

Harley took me and the kids out for dinner and tried to make it nice.

Dad had surgery and then came home and started healing - then had surgery again.

Then there's the MOVE...

Not my house - sorry to get all of your hopes up...

it's just my office.

But, I spend enough time at work that it's kind of my second home and there was so much to move.

It pretty much consummed my life.

This one of my old views. I am going to post a comparison of the old views and the new views soon.

But, for today - I miss seeing these.

I want a brother.

Last night I took the kids to Lowe's to buy some flowers to spruce up the front yard.

While walking around, Jaxon looks at me and says,

"I want a BROTHER."

Um... (Stumble, catch my own fall..) WHAT?

"Yeah, I want a brother - can you JUST grow one in your belly?"

(Still trying to find my voice and not just laugh at the sweet kid.)

"And Kyah wants a sister - I want a brother and Kyah wants a sister."

I finally remember that I am the Mom and this kid wants an answer...

Well buddy... you remember how Mom and Dad aren't married anymore...

(I hate bringing that up with him)

Well, you have to be married to have a baby...

(A lie, I know - but what am I to do?)

So, Mommy will have to get married again before we can have a baby.

"Oh..." that's all he said.

(Poor kid - I would love to have another too,

but the divorce thing kind of screws that up.)

Then comes this morning.

I'm trying to get him out of bed (which is ALWAYS a process).

He says, "Here's the deal..

I'll get out of bed, if YOU marry Dad again so we can have a baby."

Did I mention it wasn't even 8 a.m. yet?

I am not equipped to handle this type of discussion that early.

Help a Sister Out!

So, here's the skinny. (I wish, not quite - but that's why we're here.)

I have 2 months to look like this...

Okay, not really - at least not without THOUSANDS of dollars of plastic surgery, but you get what I mean.

In all reality I need/would like to lose 15-20 pounds by June.

"So What?" You might ask, "Why does this involve me?"

Because I need YOUR help!

Your suggestions, ideas, support when I really want to make something delicious... like lemon bars - I LOVE lemon ba - STOP! (See what I mean - I need you.)

So, if you want to go walking, come do a work out video or volunteer to keep my kids for a half hour so Mom can hit the gym - let me know.

Why by June? Well, there will be more pictures taken during June then probably the rest of the year combined... Oy! Jaxon's birthday, 10 year High School Reunion, Grandparents 50th anniversary.. then of course there is Swimsuit season - my kids love the pool and Rach's wedding.

After looking at the pics of Amanda's wedding and me looking absolutely cow like - I vowed to look hot in Rach's, so please, please, please

Harley's Birthday

Harley's 30th Birthday!

We all went out to eat at one of Harley's favorite Sushi spots and then headed home so the kids could give Harley their present.

We call this a "Family Sandwich."

These kids love their Dad, regardless of how old he is.

Harley LOVES chocolate. Chocolate cake with chocolate frosting and covered in ganache for good measure. I really wanted to make him a fun and fanciful cake, since 30 is kind of a big deal, but the truth is he could care less about the looks - he wanted chocolate and lots of it.

Easter Pinata

Grandma Kristi's Easter Pinata.

Since the weather was not our friend, we stayed indoors. Grandma Kristi, added the strings to the bottom and the kids took turns pulling them out until Kyah found the string connected to the trap door.

The pictures I took of the kids grabbing the goodies are SUPER blurry - thanks to their super fast moves to get to the goods.

For the Non-Priesthood Goers

Saturday my friend Sarah and her friend Kate came over while their husbands went to Priesthood. With my two kids, Sarah's two and Kate's one - we had 5 kids 4 and under. Silly, silly girls.

We really had a great time.

Jaxon was THRILLED to have friends over and to show them everything (his room, his toys, his temple pictures - you get the idea.) He didn't even seem to mind that he was the only boy.

We ate pizza, decorated sugar cookies and tried to play with every toy in the house.

The kids had a great time. Another lesson in breathe and go with the flow - I'm finding it's more fun.

Conference Weekend

I LOVE conference weekend. It really is my favorite - I really felt like there were so many great messages. My heart and mind are brimming with thoughts.

Brimming from conference, but also with love for my Savior, Jesus Christ - for his life, his death, his atonement, his resurrection and his love for me.

Easter Egg Hunt

I think this is probably in the top three of my Mom's favorite family traditions. My Mom fills a few hundred eggs for the event.

It is a riot - I love watching my sisters, who are in their 20's run around screaming about eggs. Honestly, I think they were more excited than my kids.

Sorry the pictures aren't great. I was trying to take pictures with my camera, film with my video camera and help my children actually get a few eggs before their aunts stole them, all at the same time.

Weekend Fun

Pretty much I am gone ALL THE TIME.

During the week there is work and during the weekend we do a ton of errands.

So, because my guilt is so heavy and because I'm the most un-fun mother in the world, I have started

"Five Minutes of Fun."

SUPER Cheesy - I know.

But, my thought process is that instead of planning great and elaborate things, which seem to always run into snags... I can do simple things more often that are still fun for me and the kids.

So, we made ice-cream cupcakes this weekend. Don't they look like real ice cream? Jaxon had fun decorating and eating his, Kyah prefers eating the toppings separately and eating the cupcake minus the frosting.

Whatever works!

It was my baby brother's birthday this weekend as well. Happy Birthday Daniel!

Kyah stayed up late Saturday night "helping" me cut out the circles. She was so proud of herself and covered in powdered sugar.

My Mom

It was my Mom's birthday this week. She is pretty much holding at 1 year older than me. She looks like she should be my sister NOT my mom and she acts that way too. My Mom is my rock, she is the constant in my life. I hope one day to be just like her, I would love to be a sexy grandma - too bad I will still be "short."

Yes, I am an adult, yes, I live a few miles from where I grew up, and YES I talk to my Mom on the phone EVERYDAY.

(Don't even think about saying anything about cutting the cord - if you knew my Mom like I do, you'd want to talk to her everyday too.)

My Mom is funny and laughs hard. She is the best Nana a kid could ask for.

She is generous, loving and beautiful.

She inspires and motivates!

We are ready to wear these...

Every chance Kyah gets she runs into her room and puts these on.

In case you are wondering if you are seeing it correctly, yes, Kyah wears her flip flops in between her second and third toes. Silly girl - everytime I try and fix it she tells me I'm doing it wrong.

Oh how I love her independence and strong will - I pray it will be an asset in her future.
